Row over VIP treatment to Dutt

“Nobody re-turns empty-handed from Mata Vaishno Devi. I shall also not,”said Sanjay Dutt at Katra on Sunday, ahead of his pilgrimage to the famous temple in Jammu & Kashmir. But on Monday, chasing him was a new controversy his using a beaconfitted government car escorted by cops in five police vehicles from Jammu airport to Katra.
The “VIP treatment” given to the actor, who was sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment by a Tada Court for illegal possession of assault weapons, has raised quite a few eyebrows. BJP state president Ashok Khajuria said he was shocked to hear about the “facility extended to a convict”. State units of VHP and BajrangDal, to assailed the special treatment given to the actor. How ever, the state government denied it had treated the actor as a VIP. ”we had kept the escort at the airport ready because Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt, who is an MP, was expected to arrive with him. She, however, didn’t come,” said Jammu SSP(security) A S Bali.
Escorted by five police vehicles, Dutt traveled in government car from Jammu airport to Katra, 50km away. Dutt’s fans made a beeline for a glimpse of their favorite star. “I am going to the temple like any other devotee,” he said. “I will also pray for my friends Salman Khan.” Salman, too, is out on bail in a Chinkara poaching case. State home commissioner B R Kundal said the government was looking into how Dutt was given police security.
